The Evolution has started!

Souths Boys Working Out

Next season you will notice a distinct difference in a select number of the South Sydney players. Disciplined, stronger and more powerful. Impervious to the average tackle, less prone to be injured and able to recover much quicker

During the off season a number of high profiled players and rising stars will have undergone an intensive three month off season program called “Men of Steel”.

Men of Steel is a very closely guarded program designed to improve the ability of an individual to take a blow or impact as well as to being able to project power through lightning speed. The program will run for the entire season and will ensure that those that participate in the program – have an edge unmatched by any modern day training technique.

Men of Steel was developed by Marko Vesse (Master Instructor in Wu Xing Dao Kung Fu) in 1999, based on 20 years of research into a variety of ancient martial arts conditioning techniques. He initially worked with the Sydney University 1st Grade Rugby Union Team with then coach Anthony Eddy – where he refined the techniques. He structured a three month, three days per week, pre-season conditioning program then for eight of their players. The team went on to win fifteen consecutive games and taking out the minor premiership that same year. Marko’s successful work with the team was featured in the ‘Inside Rugby Magazine’.

In 2000, Marko then personally worked with the first grade Penrith Panthers Rugby League team and some of the reserve grade players under coach Royce Simmons. The off season training program carried on into the early part of the playing season with weekly conditioning training and Men of Steel warm ups in the locker room before a game.

The Result

That year also saw the Panthers become a major force in the League competition, coming up from the wooden spoon the previous year. Penrith also experienced the best defensive record in the competition that year and went on to win both the minor premiership and the 2003 Rugby League Grand Final under coach John Lang.

The identity of the Men of Steel players and their program will be kept a closely guarded secret for the moment under the strict instructions of Master Vesse…but all will be revealed in the New Year, stay tuned for further news on this exciting program as we approach the 2006 season.
